Following the news that former Sophos Chief Security Officer Simon Reed has joined Overe as Strategic Advisor, Simon and Overe CEO Paul Barnes spoke with Ross Kelly at ITPro about the appointment and the wider challenges facing MSPs and smaller businesses.
The interview explored why cybersecurity can no longer be treated as an “install and forget” capability. SMBs face the same increasingly sophisticated threats as larger enterprises, but rarely have the same expertise, budgets or security teams.
For most smaller businesses, that expertise comes from their MSP. This makes the partnership between the MSP and the products available to them increasingly important.
Simon also explained why the industry needs to think beyond defence alone:
“It’s not just a defensive play for MSPs. It’s a resilience play.”
That means understanding whether an organisation’s environment is configured correctly, whether its security controls are providing the expected coverage and where weaknesses could leave the business exposed.
